(“UpSpring”), an innovative pre- and post-natal healthcare company based in Austin, Texas, announced today that it has been acquired by Reckitt Benckiser Group plc (“RB”), a leading global consumer health and hygiene company, for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition of UpSpring reinforces RB’s commitment to supporting expectant and new mothers, and infants in the first 1,000 days of life. As a result of the acquisition, RB can support both breastfeeding mothers and those who choose infant formula. UpSpring is an attractive business and is aligned with RB’s strategy:
- It is an agile, small-scale enterprise with a strong platform of quality products and the potential for accelerated product innovation
- It has a proven track record of growth since it was founded in 2005
- Its innovative portfolio includes all-natural, science-based products, which strongly appeal to expectant and new mothers
- With RB’s scale, quality input and healthcare capabilities, there are opportunities to grow in UpSpring’s existing U.S market and build scale in new markets such as China
UpSpring was founded in 2005 by three entrepreneurs and inventors, Lisa Williamson, Dede Woodman and Julie Jumonville. The company remains committed to creating better solutions for the challenges of motherhood and has developed a wide ranging portfolio of products focused on pre- and post-natal needs from vitamins and supplements to compression hosiery. UpSpring will continue to operate as a stand-alone entity based in Austin, Texas, with the existing management team and co-founder continuing to lead the business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
